GET INVOLVED WITH THE HARN MUSEUM OF ART
Be an Intern
Internships are offered in all museum departments with the goal of providing professional experience and growth opportunities. With guidance from museum professionals, interns gain practical experience by working on projects and programs. In addition, the museum benefits from the contributions made by interns. Past interns have gone on to other internships or careers at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim Museum of Art and the J. Paul Getty Museum, among others. For additional information about internship opportunities and requirements, click here.
Be a MUSE
For creative, energetic and dynamic students, the MUSE program offers the opportunity to share a love of art with others. MUSEs (Museum University Student Educators) are one-semester project volunteers who create and present interactive and engaging experiences for museum visitors. Each spring, summer and fall semesters, a select group of 10–15 students from diverse academic backgrounds is selected to work together to imagine and produce programs unlike any others at the museum. Often presented at Museum Nights, past programs include Art off the Wall, when MUSEs shared their interpretation of works in the Harn collection through costumes and drama. For more information about the MUSE program, call Educator Curator of Academic Programs Eric Segal at 352.392.9826 x2115, e-mail email@example.com or download an application.
Be a Gallery Guide Gallery Guides are trained student volunteers who provide friendly, informative and personal experiences to museum visitors throughout the galleries. Through this program, students will get to know the collection, gain public speaking experience, and help create a welcoming environment for our visitors. We encourage all students with an interest in art and culture to apply. As a Gallery Guide, you will need good communication and customer service skills. We ask that you commit to at least a full year of service. For more information, contact Laura Moore, Visitor Services Manager at firstname.lastname@example.org or 352.392.9826 ext. 2111. Click here to download the application.
Be a Member
Student membership provides an opportunity to support the museum and enjoy numerous benefits such as invitations to member-exclusive events, a 10% discount at the Harn Museum Store and an online subscription to the members’ newsletter, InForm. For additional information about how to become a student member, click here.
The Student Museum Advisory Council (SMAC) is a volunteer organization whose aim is to promote the museum’s many programs and resources in order to increase its visibility on the wider campus. SMAC is open to students of all backgrounds, majors, talents, and interests who will help focus on outreach and some event planning. SMAC is led by students and for students. Click here for more information and for the application.
Museum Nights is an after-hours interactive museum experience taking place the second Thursday of every month. Featuring live music, food and activities, Museum Nights is a great way to experience the museum. Museum Nights is sponsored by the UF Office of the Provost, Student Government and Honors Program.
