The end of the year is always a time of reflection for me, and a time of great excitement as I think about the wonderful things ahead in the year to come. The Harn has so much to be thankful for over the past year – the opportunity to share world-class collections with Gainesville through the Meant to be Shared and Becoming a Woman exhibitions, the launch of an early childhood learning program that will introduce the museum to our community’s youngest visitors, lectures by interesting scholars, the 5th anniversary of the David A. Cofrin Asian Art Wing, and amazing additions to all areas of the museum’s permanent collection among so many other things. Each and every one of these things were made possible by generous donors to the Harn.
As we enter this holiday season, I want to thank all of the donors who have made an impact at the Harn over the past year and are continuing to make an impact through their support for the coming year. As we prepare to ring in 2018 I hope you will join me in my excitement for the opening of Kerry Oliver-Smith’s final original exhibition, The World to Come, which is dedicated to the topic of climate change, the engaging programming surrounding an exhibition titled History, Labor, Life: The Prints of Jacob Lawrence, Family Day activities throughout the year as well as many other opportunities to engage with art at the Harn. There are so many opportunities in the coming year to engage with the museum through exhibitions, programming or simply enjoying the museum and garden spaces. With that in mind I invite you to consider making a gift to the museum. Gifts of all types and sizes make a difference and can be accomplished through a gift to the annual fund, providing a sponsorship for an exhibition or program, reaching out to discuss a planned gift, or considering the Harn as a beneficiary of your estate plans. These are all wonderful ways to demonstrate your support and enthusiasm for the future of the Harn Museum of Art. I wish you all a wonderful holiday season and a very happy new year.
