Museum Nights to include trivia and keep Butterfly Rainforest open


GAINESVILLE, Fla.—On Aug. 7, Museum Nights will feature “So You Think You Know Trivia?” from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Harn Museum of Art and will keep the Butterfly Rainforest open at the Florida Museum of Natural History from 5 to 8 p.m..

For trivia at the Harn, participants will compete in groups to earn the most points for correctly answering questions from five categories. Trivia categories include: pop culture, movies, reality TV, sports and current Harn exhibitions. Top-scoring groups will receive prizes donated by local businesses. Pizza and other “brain food” will be available for contestants and visitors. Visitors can also enjoy the Harn exhibitions on display.

Also, visit the Florida Museum of Natural History for a “Night in Paradise.” The Butterfly Rainforest will be open until 8 p.m., with the last admission at 7:30 p.m. Other Florida Museum exhibits will be open throughout the evening. Visitors can experience lush tropical plants and gaze upon hundreds of beautiful butterflies, including more than 20 newly introduced African species. Butterfly Rainforest staff members will be on site to answer questions.

Admission to the Harn Museum of Art and Florida Museum of Natural History is free. Admission to the Butterfly Rainforest during this event is free to UF students who show a Gator 1 card. Regular admission rates apply to all other visitors.

The goal of Museum Nights is to make available the rich artistic and scientific offerings of the Harn Museum of Art and Florida Museum of Natural History to the student body of the University of Florida and the broader Gainesville community. Sponsored by UF Student Government, Museum Nights expands the museums' hours on Thursday evenings and provides programming and entertainment planned by students, for students.

Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art
The Harn Museum of Art at SW 34th St. and Hull Rd. is one of the largest university art museums in the country with nearly 7,000 works in its collection focusing on African, Asian, modern and contemporary art and photography. The museum enhances the activities of the University of Florida and serves a culturally diverse audience through educational programming. Admission is free. Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Parking is free on weekends. The Camellia Court Café is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The museum and café are open until 9 p.m. Thursdays for Museum Nights during the UF Academic calendar due to the generous support of UF Student Government. Florida Museum of Natural History
The Florida Museum of Natural History is Florida’s state natural history museum, dedicated to understanding, preserving and interpreting biological diversity and cultural heritage. It is located near the intersection of Southwest 34th Street and Hull Road in the University of Florida Cultural Plaza in Gainesville. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Butterfly Rainforest admission is $8.50 for adults ($7.50 Fla. residents) and $4.50 for children ages 3-12.
