Our Lady of Solitude represents the Virgin during the period between her
son's death on Good Friday and his resurrection on Easter Sunday,
when she isolated herself in order to deal with her grief. Devotees invoke
Our Lady of Solitude for protection against loneliness and to help cope
with sadness brought upon by death.
