Work With Us

This is an exciting time to work with the Harn Museum of Art, a museum that is constantly growing and evolving. By becoming involved with the Harn Museum, you can join a team of people that make educational and entertaining experiences possible for museum visitors. The museum offers a number of rewarding opportunities that include part-time and full-time positions and volunteer and salaried positions that are listed below. Positions are open to all qualified individuals, without reference to age, race, ethnicity, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin or condition of disability. Thank you for your interest in working with the Harn Museum of Art.

BE AN EMPLOYEE
The Harn Museum of Art has more than 45 employees in a variety of positions that include accounting, curatorial, conservation, development, education, marketing, information technology, human resources, guest services, merchandising, security and maintenance. Because the Harn Museum is a university-affiliated art museum, the University of Florida serves as the employer. To view a current list of available positions, visit the University of Florida Human Resources site.

BE AN INTERN
Internships are offered in all museum departments with the goal of providing professional experience and growth opportunities. With guidance from museum professionals, interns gain practical experience by working on projects and programs. In addition, the museum benefits from the contributions made by interns. Past interns have gone on to other internships or careers at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim Museum of Art and the J. Paul Getty Museum, among others. Internships require participants to complete a specific number of hours per week. During these hours, interns complete the objectives of specific target projects and daily departmental assignments. Harn Museum internships are available on an ongoing basis with three yearly application deadlines and selection periods.

Visit the below links for project descriptions and more information. Click here for the application and here for instructions.

BE A MUSE
For creative, energetic and dynamic students, the MUSE program offers the opportunity to share a love of art with others. MUSEs (Museum University Student Educators) are one-semester project volunteers who create and present interactive and engaging experiences for museum visitors. Each spring and fall semester, a select group of 10–15 students from diverse academic backgrounds is selected to work together to imagine and produce programs unlike any others at the museum. MUSE programs have included Art off the Wall, when MUSEs shared their interpretation of works in the Harn collection through costumes and drama. For more information about the MUSE program, call Education Curator of Academic Programs Eric Segal at 352.392.9826 x2115 or e-mail esegal@harn.ufl.edu or download an application.

BE A GALLERY GUIDE
The newest way to get involved at the Harn is to be a Gallery Guide. Gallery Guides are student volunteers who are located throughout the museum’s galleries and greet guests at the visitor services desk. They offer assistance and information for visitors experiencing the exhibitions on view. To receive more information about Gallery Guides, call Vicki Tyson, Visitor Services and Museum Rental Coordinator, at 352.392.9826 ext. 2153 or e-mail vtyson@harn.ufl.edu.

BE A DOCENT
Docents at the Harn Museum are volunteer tour guides who are trained to interpret the museum's collections and traveling exhibitions. Docents serve a number of museum audiences through a variety of tour programs, and they participate in a rigorous ongoing training program. For in-depth information about the training schedule, time commitment and rewards of being a docent, view this brief presentation.

The next opportunity to join a new docent training program is 2014, but applications are always accepted. For questions, contact Brandi Breslin, curatorial and docent program manager at bbreslin@harn.ufl.edu or 352.392.9826 x2137, or download an application.

BE A VOLUNTEER

The Harn Museum of Art is interested in recruiting professional, enthusiastic, bright and talented individuals, both from the UF student body and the local community to make up the ranks of its volunteer staff. Harn volunteers contribute greatly to the success of the museum and its programs. As a volunteer, you will be held to comparable standards as paid staff. We ask that you formally apply, submit a resume and come in for an interview. Applications are available electronically as well as in print in the Bishop Study Center. If you live in the Gainesville area, come in to fill one out-we would love to meet you! A variety of volunteer positions are available. We ask that prospective volunteers commit to six months or two scholastic semesters of service. For more information, contact Ivy Chen, Bishop Study Center/Volunteer Coordinator at ichen@harn.ufl.edu or 352.392.9826 x2149.
